Violinist Anita Felix, French hornist Janis Lieberman, Pianist Marc Steiner The Sierra Ensemble performed one of the glories of chamber music--the op. 40 Horn Trio by Brahms. Also on the program were works by Saint-Saens, Tchaikovsky, Piazzolla and a work especially written for the Sierra Ensemble, Outbursts, an Homage to Brahms by Martha Stoddard. |

The Ives Quartet is one of the Bay Area's outstanding string quartets. The San Jose Mercury News reported, "the Ives' arresting sound was again on display: robust, rigorous and beautifully blended." Critic Keith Kreitman wrote, "[The Ives Quartet has the] most beautiful, rich sound of any string quartet I had ever heard." They will perform works by Haydn, Quincy Porter, and Schubert's Death and the Maiden quartet.

All three members of this trio are performing soloists as well as chamber musicians. The youngest, Ms. Lo, is in great demand as an outstanding accompanist. Ms. Ronen is principal flute of the North State Symphony, and Burke Schuchmann, the Bay Area cellist who plays to your heart, has performed many times in Mendocino: for the Festival, the Symphony, and for the FBCA.

Mr. Smiley's stunning performance last year of the gorgeous Barber Violin Concerto with the Symphony of the Redwoods produced wild applause from an audience hoping for more of the same. He performs with Pianist Jonathan Shames, a recipient of the Finalist Diploma Award at the Moscow Tchaikovsky Competition. The duo has been recognized for their technical brilliance, scholarship, and deep artistry.
